Specialization for microflows and low leaks
The T0710 is distinguished from the T0730 by its specialization in microflow measurements and small leak detection. With leak scales starting from just 10 cc/h (equivalent to approximately 0.17 cc/min), this metrological device is optimized for the validation of high-sensitivity leak testing systems, used in testing components with very stringent sealing requirements. The ability to simulate such reduced leaks makes it indispensable in sectors such as high-end automotive, medical, precision hydraulics and electronics, where even minimal leaks can compromise functionality, safety or reliability of the final product.

Sintered material technology for superior precision
The heart of the T0710 consists of a sintered stainless steel element, manufactured through a powder metallurgy process that creates a porous matrix with controlled and repeatable characteristics. Sintering allows obtaining an extremely fine and homogeneous interconnected pore structure, ideal for generating stable laminar flows even at very low values. This technology offers significant advantages over traditional capillary orifices: greater mechanical robustness, insensitivity to temperature variations, resistance to clogging from fine particles, and above all exceptional dimensional stability over time. The stainless steel also provides corrosion resistance and compatibility with various working gases.

Accuracy and repeatability in micro flow rates
The declared accuracy of the T0710 is ±5% plus 0.03 cc/min, a particularly significant value when working with reduced flows. To understand the importance of this specification, let’s consider a calibrated leak at 1 cc/min: the overall uncertainty will be approximately 0.08 cc/min, corresponding to 8% of the nominal value. This precision is fundamental for properly validating test systems that must discriminate between compliant and non-compliant components with tight tolerance margins. The repeatability of the generated leak, guaranteed by the stability of the sintered material, allows multiple verifications over time while always obtaining consistent results, an essential requirement for demonstrating the capability of quality control processes.

Customization according to application requirements
Each T0710 is manufactured to customer specifications, configuring the nominal leakage value based on the actual needs of the application. The available range covers more than three orders of magnitude, from 10 cc/h (for ultra-critical applications on small volumes) up to 200 cc/min (for larger components or with less stringent tolerances). The pressure full scale can be selected between -1 bar for vacuum applications and 10 bar for pressure testing, ensuring that calibration takes place under the same operating conditions as real tests. This customization eliminates the need for correction factors or extrapolations, maximizing the accuracy of periodic verifications.

Versatility in connection modes
The T0710 offers maximum installation flexibility thanks to the various connection options available. The 1/8″ BSP male threaded fitting is the standard for fixed installations in test benches, while the 1/4″ BSP male variant is preferred when larger diameter tubing must be used or pressure losses need to be reduced. The male Stäubli®® quick coupling, available as an option, allows fast tool-free connections and disconnections, ideal for periodic checks on different production lines or for use as a mobile reference standard shared between multiple stations. The lightweight design of 28 grams and compact dimensions make the device easy to handle and transport.

Pressure and vacuum applications
A distinctive feature of the T0710 is its ability to operate both in positive pressure up to 10 bar and in vacuum down to -1 bar. This versatility makes it suitable for validating different types of leak testing systems: differential methods that work at low relative pressures, absolute pressure drop tests commonly used in automotive and hydraulic applications, and vacuum tests typical of refrigeration, air conditioning, and vacuum industrial processes. The ability to select the optimal pressure full scale during the ordering phase ensures that calibration is performed under conditions as close as possible to operational ones, minimizing uncertainties and maximizing the reliability of verifications.

Compatibility with different gases
The T0710 is certified for use with compressed air, nitrogen and hydrogen, the three gases most commonly used in industrial leak testing. Compressed air is the most widely used fluid due to its availability and cost-effectiveness, nitrogen is used when oxidation or moisture contamination needs to be avoided, while hydrogen is employed in forming gas tests or in applications with hydrogen sniffer detectors. It is important to use the calibrated leak with the same gas for which it was certified, or to apply appropriate theoretical correction factors if the working fluid is changed, keeping in mind that small differences in the physical properties of gases can slightly influence the flow through the sintered material.

Stability over time and life cycle
One of the most appreciated characteristics of the T0710 is its exceptional long-term stability. The sintered stainless steel material does not undergo significant changes in its porous structure even after years of use and thousands of pressurization cycles. Unlike systems based on elastomeric membranes or O-rings that can degrade, or capillaries that can become clogged, the sintered metallic matrix maintains its characteristics unchanged. This stability drastically reduces the need for frequent recalibrations, although it remains good practice to periodically verify (typically annually) the calibration, both for regulatory requirements and to monitor any accidental damage. The required maintenance is practically zero: storage in the protective case when not in use, avoiding contamination with oils or liquids, protection from mechanical impacts.

Strategic importance in quality control
The use of certified calibrated leaks such as the T0710 represents a strategic investment in corporate quality management. These devices are designed to objectively demonstrate that leak testing systems operate correctly and are capable of detecting leaks below specified thresholds. This capability is essential to meet regulatory requirements, avoid costly product recalls for undetected sealing defects, and build customer confidence in the company’s ability to provide reliable components. In particular, the T0710 with its specialization in microflows is crucial for high-tech sectors where tolerance margins are minimal and where even seemingly negligible leaks can have significant consequences on the functionality or safety of the final product. The relatively contained cost of these certified standards pays for itself amply in terms of compliance, defect prevention and corporate reputation.
